Late Music

Hey all, sorry for the late post! It's been a long day. I was working on a crafter post earlier but I don't have time to finish it today, so some music will have to do. Obsessed doesn't begin to cover how I feel about this song. I have the original version and the cover below, which do you like more?

1. Gotye ft. Kimbra - somebody that I used to know (original)
2. Walk off the Earth - somebody that I used to know

Tuna Salad...Nom nom nom

I suppose if you don't like tuna this is a bit of a no go for you, but if you do you're in luck! This carb friendly lunch or dinner dish is fresh tasting and healthy.
- cucumber
-1 can of tuna
-croutons (optional)
-salt & pepper

These croutons are homemade and were a mighty fine addition. Add any other veggies you want to it, maybe a little onion for that good flavor and stinky breath. Chickpeas would be another inexpensive addition. I did not add mayo to my tuna, but if you prefer it that way mix mayo and tuna in separate bowl.

Enjoy your 'gourmet' college budget dinner!

Thrifted Timepiece

Watches sort of 'came back in' a few seasons ago as accessories. I had a lot of friends dropping a lot of money on really beautiful watches, but that seemed a little silly to me. That's probably just the thrifter in me though. Solution? eBay.

I got this watch for 5 dollars on eBay, including shipping. It came with a completely cracked and broken white band, so 20 dollars later and my watch was as good as knew. Pretty freakin' cute too if I do say so myself.

You can by new bands at most jewelry stores!

Friday Music

Happy funday Friday! Here's some of the music I'm listening to and passing on to you. What better way to kick start your weekend then with some new music??

1. Dreamer - Elizaveta
2. Angus & Julia Stone -You're the one that I want
3. Set Fire to the Third Bar - Snow Patrol
4. Beautifully - Jay Brannan

"I believe in fairytales and serendipitous encounters"

I would recommend looking up more of this artist...amazing. 'nuff said.

I actually forgot about this song until it popped up on my itunes shuffle, nice rediscovery.

This song is a tad on the pop-y side but it's a toe tapper!

Thrifted: Golden Jewelry Box

When I was living in San Francisco I would go to flea markets with my boyfriend all the time. Here is one of my favorite finds haggled down to 7 bucks. Not only do I love the style, I can never say no to an awesome jewelry box.

The box insert I purchased from Ross for about 3 dollars. I loved the pattern on the fabric. You can buy jewelry inserts at most craft stores. PROJECT EPIPHANY: You could even get a ugly plastic one and cover it in fabric yourself!

Even the bottom of this box is darling. Check out my other jewelry box thrifty find and its make over here

Veggie Stir Fry

I'm feeling a little under the weather today, so I'll make this post short and sweet...or savory. It's a little how-to on a veggie stir fry.

Chop up veggies of choice, in this case:
 - onion
-snap peas

Add oil to pan and heat.
Next toss heartier veggies in first because they take longer to cook.

TIP: you can tell when your oil is hot by tilting
the pan, if your oil runs fast its hot.

By putting a lid over as you go you are also steaming the vegetables, retaining more nutrients.

Add other vegetables as you go, but make tomatoes last because they only need
about 30 seconds! Be sure to season with salt and pepper to taste.

Serve over rice with soy sauce, curry, or any other choice of sauce. OR add to pesto or red sauce over pasta. Personally I love this added to tomato soup! Actually now that I look at it this came out quite long. Oh well, there is a cup of wellness tea calling my name now, until tomorrow...

Of the violet variety

I just came back from my geology lab where we had to identify minerals. While the scientific part of geology isn't really my thing, appreciating a nice mineral is. Amethyst is one of my favorite stones and here is a little info on it...

Amethyst is essentially quartz with a purple hue. It is a stone of psychic awareness that has a calming and protective aura. It has been used to help with:

-       attracting love and happiness.
-       energizing your crown chakra
-       psychic protection
-       any kind of divination
-       meditation
-       pain of arthritis or headache
-       overcoming addiction
-       treating insomnia and nightmares
-       neutralizing negative energy

Pearl, key, & wire wrapped raw amethyst necklace. By ME

Lace Headband DIY

I'm very lazy in the morning, so most of the time I end up tossing my hair in a bun and hurrying away to class. One of my attempts to make myself look a little more normal was decorated or embellished headbands. Here is one of the ones that I made, very easy!

You will need:
Glue gun
ribbon or fabric scraps for base color
a headband (I bought mine at Ross)
end fabric
lace or fabric for decoration

Just because...

I've proclaimed my love for vintage prints quite a bit and here is yet another way to use them. These are used for backings in the bags for my jewelry. I also think this concept would make adorable cards!

Very easy to make, pick the size of the card that you want and snip it out. OR purchase pre cut paper or blank cards from a craft store. I just scoured the internet for colored vintage style prints, printed them and pulled a little cut&paste action. Also, my ever growing list of phrases and words that I dig had its moment to shine. Its weird how much I love Courier font...

Inspiration for this project was 100% Tokyo Milk. I fell in love with their designs when I purchased some of their parfum that was packaged absolutely perfectly. The packaging of your product is just as important as the product itself! It's that irreversible first impression...

Another great shape for these would be a present tag:

Add a little twine and ribbon...bam!

Snowy Day to-dos

One of the perks of going to school in Washington? Snow dayyysss!! So with no school on this fine Thursday I decided that this would be a proactive day. I have a tendency to conduct my life from the coziness of my bed, so I made the rule that today I WOULD NOT lounge in my bed. The to do list for today?

Tuesday jamming session..

Last night I decided that it was time to take a peek in my closet and see what I could sell on eBay. That's a task and half so I decided some pump up music was needed to keep my spirits high. What came to be was a really rockin' pandora playlist. It's my new go-to pandora list, thought I'd share some of the goodies with you all.

Song playlist based on: Brandi you're a fine girl

Romancer of the textile world

There's something absolutely perfect about waking up, making a cup of tea and opening your window to everything covered in snow. Here is a peak into one of my biggest white loves: my lace collection (or part of it anyway).

Lace is a nice little combo of craftsmanship, talent and little bit of period romance. It covers a lot but reveals a lot more. Maybe my favorite textile out there...and when I come across hand made lace I can't help but feel my fingers cramp up a little.

Metal Lace

Left: Hand crocheted lace
Doily cut and stitched folded, seed beads stitched on to accent. AKA boredom at its finest
Sweater collar from the 50s...my first flea market purchase!

I hope everyone is having a fabulous day off! I for one will be recovering from 3am sledding with my cup-o-tea.
